Young People

‘Propping the eyelids of young children up on matchsticks’ is  the mantra for Walled City Partnership’s pro-active work growing childrens’ and teenagers’ visual awareness, and capacity to notice and describe the old buildings, as they come and go from their homes and schools every day.

Our young people will take on from us, the mantle of caring for and looking after our old buildings and the many spaces between them.  Yet more and more children grow up, go to school and visit shops in or surrounded by new buildings.  An increasing number may never have been inside an old building, much less notice one.  It is only by experiencing old buildings personally, over time, that any of us grow to appreciate, love them, and in turn, bother enough to understand them and ultimately care about and for them.
Our ground breaking, fun, innovative, and interactive, heritage awareness raising programmes give children of all ages a chance to get up close and personal with heritage.
To date over three hundred and eighty children have participated in our wide ranging, lively fun heritage awareness raising programmes.
